If you are in the affected area moderado
WHO said on 4 October 2026 that overall mpox risk remained moderate for people with higher exposure through sexual networks, while risk was low for the general population without specific risk factors. Segundo WHO
If you are elsewhere in the same country or region moderado
WHO's latest published framing says risk remains moderate for men who have sex with men with new or multiple partners, and low for the general population without specific risk factors. Segundo WHO
If you are travelling there soon alto
For travel in the African Region, WHO assessed the risk as high on 22 August 2024 as mpox expanded to new countries and undetected community spread was considered likely in some settings. Segundo WHO
If you are elsewhere in the world sem avaliação
No agency has published a single risk level for people elsewhere in the world in the notices cited here. The most relevant WHO notice instead splits risk by exposure, saying risk is low for the general population without specific risk factors and higher in some sexual networks.

O que está acontecendo

Mpox remains a worldwide watch issue rather than a single contained outbreak, with both clades I and II still circulating globally. WHO says the 2022 clade IIb outbreak is still ongoing, while clades Ia and Ib continue to drive concern in Africa and beyond. In February 2026, WHO reported two known cases of an inter-clade Ib/IIb recombinant virus linked to the United Kingdom and retrospectively to India; neither case was severe, no secondary cases were found, and WHO said this did not change its overall risk assessment. The clearest recent official country update is from Angola, where health authorities said the country had recorded 796 confirmed cases and two deaths since 2024; separately, media reports across this record list 100814 confirmed cases, 2 deaths and 1 suspected case worldwide, all unverified. Officials say current response measures include case detection and testing, clade-specific sequencing, contact tracing, isolation, clinical care, PPE, risk communication, community engagement and vaccination as part of a broader response.

Quem é afetado e como se transmite

Mpox is a viral disease caused by monkeypox virus, an orthopoxvirus related to the virus that caused smallpox. It spreads through close contact with a person with mpox, including direct skin contact, sexual contact, mouth-to-mouth contact, close face-to-face exposure, contaminated bedding or clothing, and sometimes from infected animals. Severe illness can happen, especially in children, pregnant people and people with weak immune systems. WHO says vaccines for mpox exist, but vaccination is only one part of control.
