Что происходит

Dengue continues to circulate worldwide, especially where Aedes mosquitoes are established, and WHO still treats it as a major global public-health problem. In its latest formal global update, published on 30 May 2024, WHO said that by 2024-04-30 more than 7.6 million cases, more than 16,000 severe cases and more than 3,000 deaths had been reported, with 90 countries known to have active transmission in 2024. More recent information in the last week is mainly media reporting on country spikes rather than a new WHO global update, with Bangladesh and Florida drawing attention. Those recent media reports contribute to the current worldwide media tally of 14,614,317 confirmed cases, 90,356 hospitalised cases and 284 deaths, all unverified here, including +1,996 hospitalised cases and +10 deaths this week from media reporting. WHO says the response should focus on real-time surveillance, stronger laboratory detection, trained clinical staff, vector surveillance and control, hospital readiness, risk communication and community engagement, and its Iran notice also describes diagnostic supplies, medicines for symptom management, pesticides, nets and staff training.

Кто подвержен риску и как передаётся

Dengue is a viral infection spread mainly by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus. It is most common in tropical and subtropical places, especially urban and semi-urban areas, and people living where Aedes aegypti is present are at risk. Dengue has four virus types, and infection with one type does not give lasting protection against the others, which helps explain why outbreaks can recur.
