Cholera remains a multi-country problem rather than one single outbreak, with WHO saying outbreaks were continuing across multiple countries. In WHO’s latest global update available here, between 2025-01-01 and 2025-08-17, 409,222 cholera or acute watery diarrhoea cases and 4,738 deaths were reported from 31 countries. WHO’s Angola country office then said on 2026-09-30 that Angola alone had recorded over 43,000 cases and more than 1,000 deaths since the start of 2025. More recent media and outbreak-tracker reports point to activity in Zambia, Bangladesh and Kenya, and the media figures attached here are 494,509 confirmed cases, 304 suspected cases, 8,873 deaths and 1,200 hospitalised, all unverified; Zambia reports also disagree on whether the current headline total was 304 suspected cases with 62 confirmed cases and 11 deaths, or 304 confirmed cases and 11 deaths. WHO says control efforts include stronger surveillance and laboratory confirmation, rapid response teams, case management, water and sanitation measures, infection prevention and control, community engagement, cross-border coordination and oral cholera vaccination, and in Angola it described training health workers, outreach, water-treatment support and vaccination.

谁会受影响以及如何传播

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease caused by certain strains of Vibrio cholerae, mainly O1 and O139. You usually get it by swallowing water or food contaminated with human waste containing the bacteria, so risk rises where water and sanitation are poor. Conflict, displacement, flooding and weak access to care make outbreaks harder to control. Many infections are mild, but severe illness can cause profuse watery diarrhoea, vomiting and rapid dehydration.
